The MARTA board of directors approved negotiations Thursday to develop land around the Arts Center station in Midtown.

The project would be developed by Atlanta-based Cousins Properties and Integral Group.

Last May, MARTA said the Arts Center project would involve construction on a 6.2-acre site that is currently part bus station, part train station, part parking space and part undeveloped land.

MARTA has plans to build transit-oriented developments at many of its stations. Work on a project that will include 224 residential units, a performing arts center and a park began at the Edgewood/Candler Park MARTA station last week.
