Watson, who represents east DeKalb County, denied knowledge of the case. “I know nothing about that. I have no idea,” Watson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution when reached by phone June 23. “No one subpoenaed me. I’m not indicted. I have no other comment.” -- Text by Mark Niesse, AJC

Nov. 15, 2011 -- Commissioners Elaine Boyer, Jeff Rader and Stan Watson (right) during a meeting of the Dekalb County Commission. Jonathan Pinson, the former chairman of South Carolina State University’s board of trustees, and his business partner, Eric Robinson, are on trial on charges that they used their political and personal connections to enrich themselves through a series of white-collar crimes. One of those alleged crimes involved discussions to pay bribes to a DeKalb elected official in exchange for favorable treatment, according to a 52-count indictment. -- Text by Mark Niesse, AJC

DeKalb County has launched an effort to clean up key gateway intersections with four groundbreakings around the county. The Fresh Start program calls for professional landscaping and monument signs to identify commercial and residential areas at those intersections.

2007 -- State representative Stan Watson hands a proclamation to Narvie J. Harris during a presentation at the Narvie J. Harris Traditional Theme School. The group attended along with Mrs. Harris, the school's namesake, in order to receive the proclamation as Red Hat Society Day from Dekalb County CEO Vernon Jones.

According to his personal website, www.politicalstan.com, " Commissioner Stan Watson is a dedicated and proven leader who has served DeKalb County in volunteer and in elected positions for over thirty (30) years. He is a former member of the Georgia General Assembly, serving for twelve (12) years. He is the former Chairman of the DeKalb House Delegation and the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus."

2003 -- Georgia State Rep. Stan Watson speaks before a vote of HB 308 during the House session, at the Capitol in Atlanta. The House was poised to change the state flag Tuesday, but black lawmakers were working to spike a provision setting up a statewide referendum that could restore the Confederate battle emblem to the state banner.
