Locust Grove will hold a special election June 16 to fill a city council vacancy left by the death of councilman James Rosser.

Rosser, 72, died of a sudden illness on April 13. He was serving his second term. The special election will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Locust Grove Recreation Center, 10 Cleveland St., in Locust Grove. Qualifying starts April 27. The qualifying fee is $252. Candidates must be an American citizen and have lived in Locust Grove more than a year to qualify. Early voting runs May 26 to June 12. Council members and the mayor are elected at-large.
