More than 100 jobs are coming to Stockbridge with the expansion of KL Outdoor, a Michigan-based maker of canoes and other outdoor equipment.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development said the company is investing $8.3 million in a facility in Stockbridge and jobs will include manufacturing and distribution.

“We are very excited to partner with the Economic Development professionals of Henry County and the State of Georgia to open this important manufacturing and distribution center,” Chuck Smith, KL Outdoor CEO, said in a release. “The company expansion allows KL Outdoor to better serve our key customers by reducing the cost to deliver boats to their stores and ultimately the end-user.”

Based in Muskegon, Mich., KL Outdoors products include kayaks, canoes, pedal boats and paddleboards.

"KL Outdoors is a welcomed addition to Henry County," David Gill, chairman of the Henry County Development Authority, said. "The company has selected a great location for its manufacturing and distribution operation. We look forward to being an active part of their growth."

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
