Henry seeking donations for tornado victims in south Georgia

People walk amid debris in Lee County, Ala., after what appeared to be a tornado struck in the area March 3. At least 23 people were killed in Alabama from storms that rumbled through Georgia, Alabama and Florida last weekend.

Henry County's government is joining with the Atlanta Motor Speedway and Associates Group Insurance to gather supplies for people who were impacted by recent tornadoes in south Georgia.

Henry leaders are looking for donations of toiletries, non-perishable times, diapers and cleaning supplies through this coming Monday, the county government said. All donations need to be new.

Twisters swept through parts of south Georgia, Florida and Alabama last weekend, bringing destruction in their wake. At least 23 people were killed in Alabama from the storms. Georgia reported no deaths. 

Supplies can be dropped off from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Henry County Administration Building, the Sheriff’s Office and the Public Safety Building through March 11. The items also can be delivered between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at Henry County Fire stations and at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton.

The Henry County Administration Building is located at 140 Henry County Parkway in McDonough; The Sheriff’s Office, 120 Henry Parkway in McDonough; The Public Safety Building, 110 S. Zack Hinton Parkway in McDonough; and the Atlanta Motor Speedway, 1500 Tara Place in Hampton.
