Cans of unused paint were just some of the hazardous waste items collected during a 2013 “Eco Collection” in Buckead. Used hazardous waste can be disposed of in DeKalb County on Saturday.

Old batteries, paints, aerosols and other hazardous materials can be safely disposed of March 25 in DeKalb County.

The twice-a-year hazardous waste recycling event is free and open only to DeKalb residents.

The county is also accepting adhesives, flammables, photo chemicals, lawn care products, fluorescent light bulbs, art supplies and swimming pool chemicals. Products that can’t be recycled include ammunition, pharmaceuticals and biomedical waste.

The household hazardous waste disposal event, sponsored by the DeKalb Sanitation Division in partnership with MXI Environmental Services, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on March 25 at 3720 Leroy Scott Drive in Decatur.
