Gwinnett County libraries will open earlier on Saturday mornings, beginning next month.

Starting Aug. 15, all branches of the Gwinnett library system will open at 10 a.m. on Saturday mornings. Now, they open at noon.

The county cut its library hours through the recession. A budget request last year that would have expanded hours further was denied, but library spokesman Clifford Ibarrondo said the system was able to change employees’ schedules to expand the hours slightly.

“Uniform hours across the board is a little out of reach right now,” he said.

The Saturday change will allow better access to the library, Ibarrondo said.

Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash said she appreciated the effort to allow access “during the times families can access libraries together.”
