Gwinnett County residents, want a say in how your sales tax money for transportation projects is spent? Here’s a chance.

The organizational meeting for the volunteer Citizens Project Selection Committee will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday Aug. 15 in the auditorium of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, 75 Langley Drive, Lawrenceville.

The committee will meet 10 to 12 times over six months to prioritize transportation projects that would be funded by a proposed 1 percent sales tax for capital projects. If voters approve it in November, the tax also will pay for library, parks and other improvements.

The 11-member citizen committee will be composed of one person from each county commission district, plus representatives from a variety of interest groups: business leaders, environmental groups, schools, civic organizations/leaders, the freight and manufacturing industry, seniors and young professionals.

To serve, participants must be a Gwinnett County resident and provide photo documentation.
