Gwinnett County commissioners will consider giving themselves a 51 percent raise Tuesday, boosting their pay for a part-time job to $45,000.

As The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported recently, district commissioners haven't received a raise since 2009. If approved, the new raise would take effect next January.

Chairman Charlotte Nash says the raise is needed to allow Gwinnett to continue to attract quality candidates to public office. The raise would put the salaries of Gwinnett’s district commissioners in the same ballpark as those in Cobb, DeKalb and Fulton counties. Nash, a full-time chairman, would not get a raise under the proposal to be considered Tuesday.

Now we want to hear what you think. Do Gwinnett commissioners deserve a raise? You can take part in our poll below. And if you're willing to be quoted in an AJC article, contact reporter David Wickert at dwickert@ajc.com.
