Fulton County tax bills will likely be sent out late

An error at the tax assessor’s office will likely delay Fulton County tax bills, which normally go out in July. The late mailing will cause a domino effect that could require the county to borrow money to cover its debts.

If the tax bills are delayed more than few weeks, it could mean payments come in later than anticipated. That could force the county to borrow money or dip into savings to pay bills that taxes were intended to cover.

Daniel Jones, owner of the property tax appeals company Fair Assessments, said he couldn’t recall a situation like this.

“It could cause problems,” he said. “I don’t know for certain what earthquake might happen.”
