Fulton County Chairman John Eaves lambasted a state legislator Wednesday who proposed a resolution that would reintroduce Milton County, splitting Fulton.

“To me, he’s just out of step,” Eaves said of Brad Raffensperger, R-Johns Creek. “This is 2016. I see no benefit to him trying to undermine what we’re trying to do.”

Raffensperger pre-filed the legislation, House Resolution 964, which would amend the state constitution so a county that existed previously but merged with another county could be recreated.

Eaves said while there had been contention between the north and south parts of Fulton in the past, leading others to propose a split, the commission had recently been responsive to North Fulton's needs.

“It would be great if this board could let him know that’s old news,” Eaves said. “It’s counter what we’re trying to do.”
