Fulton County voters will head to the polls again in February to elect a state representative in District 58.

No one received a majority of the vote in the Tuesday election to fill the unexpired term of Simone Bell. So the Feb. 16 runoff will pit the top two vote-getters against each other.

According to unofficial results, Park Cannon and Ralph Long III will compete for the seat.

Less than 3 percent of eligible voters turned out to vote. The county’s legislative delegation is currently evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, so the winner — both candidates are Democrats — will tip the delegation’s power.

Richard Barron, Fulton’s director of registration and elections, said turnout was light for the election, and only 26 people had voted early.

“It’s like the slowest election I’ve ever seen here,” he said.
