Eligible people who have been arrested but not convicted of a crime in Cobb County have until Friday, Jan. 31 to register for an expungement event next month to restrict those records.

The Feb. 29 event is the first of its kind in Cobb, and seeks to help those whose arrests may hinder their ability to get jobs or housing.

“We are not talking about someone who pled guilty to armed robbery,” District Attorney Joyette Holmes said in a statement. “In general, we are talking about arrests that were later dismissed or cases in which the offender completed an accountability court program or Conditional Discharge.”

The record restriction event is limited to the first 250 applicants, who must register either online at www.CobbRestore360.org or by submitting a paper application, available at all Cobb libraries.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29, at the Riverside Epicenter, 135 Riverside Parkway, in Austell.

South Cobb Commissioner Lisa Cupid wrote that she is  “excited” her district will host the county’s first expungement event “to help residents lead fuller, more productive lives.”
