If you’ve been looking for an affordable place in metro Atlanta for your elderly parents to live, you might want to check out Forest Park.

Home to the state's largest Farmer's Market, Forest Park apparently is the most affordable place for senior citizens when it comes to cost of living, according to A Place for Mom, the nation's largest senior care referral firm. An independent-living senior can live there for about $2,052 a month.

For the frugal-minded, you might want to steer clear of Suwanee, Peachtree City and Alpharetta. They were listed as the top three most expensive places for seniors to live in metro Atlanta, according to Mom’s National Senior Living Cost Index.

It would take $2,739 a month for an independent-living senior to live in Suwanee, $2,683 in Peachtree City and $2,645 in Alpharetta.

Overall, metro Atlanta ranked 21st of the top 31 metro areas with the largest population of older adults. The region is also 10th in the nation in the 55-and-older population.

The index is timed to the company’s May 19 launch of its Atlanta-specific resource to help families plan for the cost of senior living. The site will let users compare costs for independent living, assisted living and memory care.

Just so you know: Forest Park and Haralson County’s Buchanan ranked No. 1 and No. 2 among the least expensive areas for senior living in metro Atlanta.
