A finalist for the Henry County county manager’s job has withdrawn because the county is delaying its selection process.

Lyndon Bonner was in the running for the job along with interim county manager Cheri Hobson-Matthews.

Bonner, an Ocala, Fla. native, has more than 20 years of government administration experience, serving as both a city manager and county administrator in rural communities as well as large urban jurisdictions. He most recently served as city manager for North Miami Beach where he managed 422 employees and oversaw a budget of $111 million.

Efforts to reach Bonner in Florida Monday were unsuccessful but Henry Commission Chairman Tommy Smith verified that Bonner had withdraw his name late last week.

“We told him there were some things we had to mull over. He wanted to opt out,” Smith told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Monday. “This is a big decision for us. We ain’t going to just jump into it.”

Hobson-Matthews, who has worked in Henry government for 13 years, is now the sole candidate. She has been interim county manager since May when the former county manager Jim Walker resigned amid an investigation into allegations that he had sexually harassed a female employee.

Walker is slated to start a new job today as county manager for Catoosa County.
