U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced $4.8 million in grants for projects in Georgia.  They include a $2.85 million for an extension of the Bob Callan trail in the Cumberland area, and a pedestrian bridge in the Beltline corridor, as well as money to train minorities and women to compete for federal contracts and work on highway projects.  The U.S. Department of Transportation received more than 1,800 applications for $13 billion in projects for the grant program, which was more than 30 times the money available, according to DOT.
