More than a dozen families were displaced following a Buckhead apartment fire Saturday.

An Atlanta fire spokesman said in an email that as many as 16 families were affected by the blaze, which began around noon at the 771 Lindbergh apartments.

One building was affected, Sgt. Cortez Stafford said in an email, and no injuries were reported.

Red Cross helped 10 adults and one child, said Divina Mims, a spokeswoman for the group. Mims said several residents who were affected by the blaze have renters insurance and declined Red Cross help.

In addition to providing financial assistance to residents who needed food, clothes, shoes and places to stay, Mims said Red Cross workers also helped residents replace glasses, dentures and prescription medications. Mental health workers also met with families to assess their emotional needs, she said.

Mims said Red Cross takes monetary donations, but does not collect items. People who want to donate items should contact the apartment complex to do so.

Stafford said investigators would begin investigating the cause of the fire “as soon as it is safe enough to do so.”
