A new entrance to Stonecrest Mall, Emory Healthcare facilities and retail stores will be built as part of the Atlanta Sports City complex in the city of Stonecrest.

Business leaders said Wednesday that Atlanta Sports City could become a centerpiece of southeast DeKalb County and rejuvenate the mall.

The new city of Stonecrest got to work Monday with its first City Council meeting.

Atlanta Sports City, which will have a 15,000-seat stadium and 22 soccer fields, will connect to the mall through a new "grand entrance," developers said.

That 250,000-square-foot expansion to Stonecrest Mall will include restaurants and possibly a sporting goods store and entertainment options like an aquarium or trampoline park, said Craig Delasin, CEO for Urban Retail Properties.
