Two Democrats saw their proposals approved by the Georgia House on Monday, 29 days into the 40-day session.

Neither measure was political, a necessity in a 180-member chamber with only 63 Democrats. The first, House Bill 117, required that both the seller and recipient of money from property sales in Georgia be the same person. The change, sponsored by Rep. Rick Crawford, D-Cedartown, closes a loophole of some nonresidents being listed on sales to avoid a state withholding tax.

The House also approved legislation Monday that would allow those who have completed cosmetology training be issued a work permit while waiting for written and practical exam results. Rep. Billy Mitchell, D-Stone Mountain, sponsored House Bill 374, which passed 140-14.

Both measures now head to the Senate.
