DeKalb oversight board member removed

The effort to hire an independent watchdog over DeKalb County's government is getting more contentious.

State Sen. Gloria Butler recently rescinded her appointment of Harmel Codi to DeKalb's Audit Oversight Committee, a move Codi says is political meddling that threatens the panel's independence.

The board is responsible for hiring an auditor who will be responsible for finding fraud, reducing inefficiencies and exposing waste.

Butler says Codi, an outspoken critic of DeKalb’s government, was using the committee to pursue her own agenda.
