Jay Vinicki recently resigned as budget director for DeKalb County to take a similar job with Atlanta Public Schools.

Vinicki joined APS in late May, and his title is executive director of budget services. He worked as director of DeKalb's Office of Management and Budget for nearly 11 years. Before that, he was operating budget manager at Gwinnett County.

In his resignation letter, Vinicki thanked DeKalb CEO Mike Thurmond for keeping him on staff after being elected in 2016.

“My ten years plus at DeKalb has been a very rewarding time where I have learned a lot,” Vinicki wrote.

The county says they are seeing an uptick in the amount of people dying in accidents.
