Less than a year after purchasing Magnolia Crossing, a troubled apartment complex on Six Flags Drive, and displacing residents, the South Cobb Redevelopment Authority is coming under fire for a plan to hire a senior manager using money from that project.

“That money could have been used to make transition for those folks that really were struggling a little easier,” said Darlene Duke, executive director of Sweetwater Mission, a local nonprofit that spent $20,000 assisting residents facing eviction.

“If they’re really saying it’s because they saved money from Magnolia Crossing, shame on them. Shame on them,” Duke said. “There were families that needed additional help.”
