A Marietta man and serial offender who shot someone in the head and later tried to bribe witnesses not to appear in court will be going back to prison.

Justin Brown, 35, was convicted last week of attempted murder and other crimes. He had multiple prior felony convictions and was sentenced to serve 40 years without parole.

“The defendant tried to bully, intimidate and bribe witnesses to avoid being prosecuted,” prosecutor Matthew Carlton said in a statement. “The citizens of Cobb County are safer with this defendant back in prison.”

On June 18, 2018, Brown, who had been released from jail four days prior, was upset over an alleged slight when he went to a Marietta home to see a woman, according to the statement.

There, Brown argued with someone and then pulled out a gun and fired, striking one man on the top of his head and grazing his arm. He fled the scene and was arrested in Atlanta hours later.

At his trial, Brown claimed self defense and insisted that he had the right to carry a gun, despite being a convicted felon. He also admitted to attempting to bribe witnesses not to appear in court.

Brown tied his behavior to post traumatic stress from being shot and stabbed multiple times over his life.
