Clayton County’s 7,000 school district employees will get a 3-percent bonus under a plan recommended by the superintendent.

The school board is expected to vote in favor of the plan at its regular meeting Monday. The board discussed the bonuses at its work session earlier this week.

The bonus, if approved, would be paid Jan. 13 and would be the second to be given this calendar year, Superintendent Luvenia Jackson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The school board has set aside more than $40 million for incentives and bonuses to retain staff for the 2016-17 school year, Jackson noted.

Employees received a 4-percent raise in September for the 2016-2017 school year, Jackson said. That raise was slightly higher than those given during the past two school years, she said.

The average annual pay for teachers in Clayton is $55,706. That does not include benefits. Beginning pay for teachers is $43,517 a year.
