Small business owner Drew Ellenburg announced his candidacy Tuesday for the new state Senate District 6.

The district, formerly falling mostly in Cobb County, was shifted into Buckhead and Sandy Springs in August when state lawmakers redrew legislative maps. The District 6 seat is currently held by Democrat Doug Stoner. Republicans will make up 55 percent of the new area.

Attorney Beth Beskin, who ran unsuccessfully for the District 38 Senate seat against Dem. Horacena Tate in 2010, is also running for the seat next year, along with Sandy Springs attorney Josh Belinfante, who resigned his post on the former State Ethics Commission to enter the race. Smyrna resident Hunter Hill, who challenged Stoner in 2008, is also running again for the Senate seat.
