The GBI is investigating after Gwinnett County police officers shot and killed a man in Buford on Saturday.

Spokesman T.H. Kim said officers responded to a domestic dispute between a man and his wife on Suwanee Mill Drive on Saturday afternoon when they saw a man outside holding a knife. The man went back inside the house and got a handgun, Kim said.

The GBI identified the man Tuesday as 68-year-old Johnny Weeks.

Kim said Weeks refused to drop the gun, despite officers’ requests. He was shot  by one officer after pointing the gun at several police officers, Kim said.

Kim said Weeks died at the scene, despite officers’ attempts to administer aid. In an earlier statement, Kim said the man was alive and was being transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

The officers were not injured. The officer’s name was not released.

It was the eighth officer-involved shooting the GBI was called to investigate this year.
