Legislation proposed by Sen. Barry Loudermilk, R-Cassville, and others would open up more public spaces and meetings to people carrying concealed weapons.

"This will take care of the argument about carrying in churches," for instance, Loudermilk said.

Senate Bill 98 proposes to restrict no-carry zones only to courthouses, prisons, jails, detention centers and school safety zones. Loudermilk said he is hoping to open up the public discussion about where it would be proper for Georgians who have concealed-carry permits to carry their weapons.

"Let's put an idea out there and let's run it through the system," he said.
