Marietta names its only candidate for superintendent — and he's local

Marietta's board of education announced Thursday morning its sole candidate for its soon-to-be-open superintendent position.

The board named Grant Rivera, current chief of staff to the superintendent of the Cobb County School District, after a national search.

The reason Rivera a finalist and has not been named outright is because the board is required to let records be open for 14 days for the public to inspect. That can be seen here along with his 33-page resume.

Rivera is husband to Jenn Hobby of the Star 94.1's Jeff & Jenn Show. Their baby daughter, Reese, was recently diagnosed with cancer.

The board reviewed surveys from the community and school staff, handed out a recruitment brochure and reviewed 34 applications before interviewing candidates.

Current superintendent Emily Lembeck announced her retirement in August after 12 years in the role. Her last day is Dec. 31.
