An argument about a speeding ticket between a Rockdale County woman and her estranged husband ended with accusations of the husband assaulting his wife and killing her dog.

Rockdale sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call about 12:16 p.m. on Jan. 17 at the home of Chenelle Duntin. She told deputies her estranged husband, Daryl Fleming of Lithonia, forcibly removed her from a vehicle after an argument about a speeding ticket. A report of the incident indicates Fleming punched Duntin and dragged her from the car by her legs. He then picked her up and “slammed her backwards onto the ground,” according to the report.

Fleming left Duntin at that location and drove off with their young daughters in the car, authorities said. He allegedly drove to her home, kicked in the front door and proceeded to kill the dog, all while she listened on the phone, according to the report.

Duntin called her mother, who picked her up from a location on Salem Road, and the two women proceeded to the house. Duntin’s mother called police when she saw the front door kicked in and the dog hanging from a light fixture in the front entry of the house.

Fleming was not at the house when deputies arrived, but warrants were issued for simple battery, criminal trespass and cruelty to animals. A warrant for aggravated stalking was also taken out, because Fleming violated a previous court order to stay away from Duntin, deputies said.

Fleming was arrested later that evening in DeKalb County on unrelated drug and weapons charges, according to Michael Camp, a crime investigator in the Rockdale sheriff’s office. Camp said once Fleming, who is being held at the DeKalb County jail, answers to the charges in DeKalb, he is expected to be turned over to Rockdale authorities.
