The truck driver killed Wednesday in a fatal wreck that shutdown northbound lanes of I-85 in Spaghetti Junction for hours has been identified as 33-year-old Corey Hart of Lithia Springs.

According to investigators on the scene, the driver of a tractor-trailer that was coming off the ramp from I-285 onto I-85 northbound lost control about 4 a.m. The trailer of that truck was struck by the cab of Hart’s truck, which was already northbound on I-85. The impact split the trailer of the ramping truck in half, killed Hart and resulted in a “significant diesel” spill that DeKalb Hazmat crews were able to mitigate, authorities said.

It also snarled traffic along I-85 and blocked the I-285 north ramp to I-85.

“We knew that we were not going to be able to disentangle the decedent here on the scene so that part of the cab” was “packaged and transported to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office,” Capt. Eric Jackson with DeKalb Fire Rescue told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The unidentified driver of the ramping truck was taken to a local trauma center with minor injuries, Capt. Eric Jackson with DeKalb Fire Rescue told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

While I-85 reopened late Wednesday morning, the I-285 north ramp did not reopen until early Wednesday afternoon.
