Jonesboro woman charged with DUI after I-85 wrong-way wreck

A Jonesboro woman is facing DUI and several other traffic charges after Gwinnett County police said she drove the wrong way for several miles on I-85 Sunday morning, causing a multi-vehicle crash.

Alysha Harvin was traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-85 when she was stopped by police near Beaver Ruin Road about 4 a.m. Sunday, according to Gwinnett police Sgt. R.D. Work.

Harvin had allegedly been driving the wrong way for at least four miles.

“Prior to getting Ms. Harvin stopped, she caused a four-car accident on I-85 north near Pleasant Hill Road,” Work said in an e-mail. “That incident caused one vehicle to flip several times while the others collided with each other.”

No injuries were reported in the wreck, Work said.

He said Harvin was charged with DUI, hit-and-run, reckless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road.

According to the Gwinnett police incident report, Harvin, who admitted to officers that she had been drinking earlier at a nightclub in Atlanta, was taken to the Gwinnett County Jail, where she registered .158 on a state-administered breath test.

Harvin was booked into the jail early Sunday, and released about 12 hours later on $2,942 bond, according to jail records.
