A 19-year-old accused in an Aug. 14 shooting death in Illinois was arrested Sunday near Duluth, along with a local man accused of providing false information, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Devon Levon Stidwell, of Ford Heights, has been charged with murder in the death of a 16-year-old killed outside a strip mall. But he eluded capture until his arrest 700 miles away.

After receiving information that Stidwell was at an extended-stay hotel on Venture Drive, deputies spotted the suspect and another man in the parking lot, according to Deputy Shannon Volkodav. Gwinnett officers, who arrived to assist deputies, conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and arrested Stidwell.

The driver of the vehicle, Stacy Antoine Hall, 23, was arrested for an outstanding probation violation, Volkodav said. Hall was also charged with giving false name or information.

Stidwell and Hall were transported to the Gwinnett County Jail, where they were being held late Tuesday with no bond.
