Officials from multiple agencies are searching for a driver who ran away from a police chase in Coweta County, officials said.

Authorities closed down I-85 near U.S. 29 for more than three hours Sunday afternoon while investigators looked for the driver, who is believed to be armed, officials said.

The incident began with a reported domestic dispute in LaGrange, Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Franka Young said. The suspect, who was not named, was involved in a physical incident with his girlfriend, she said.

The suspect fled from the incident and drove onto I-85, Young said. Georgia State Patrol troopers chased the driver southbound on I-85 near mile marker 36, she said.

A trooper performed a PIT maneuver on the driver’s vehicle, and the car wrecked, Coweta officials said. The driver then got out and ran away, officials said.

Investigators said the suspect is sought on multiple felony warrants. It is not clear what he is accused of.
