Henry officer killed in hit-and-run 30-year veteran
Henry County Police officer Elgin L. Daniel had worked for the department for two years before his death Monday evening.
Elgin, 53, was struck by a hit-and-run driver on while helping a stranded motorist on North Henry Boulevard, police said.
He was one of two people who stopped near the Starlite Skate Center near Stockbridge to help a man whose car had run out of gas.
Elgin and 58-year-old John Cook were taken to Atlanta Medical Center where Elgin died.
Cook is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police are currently looking for the driver of a 1997 to 2007 Ford F-250 or F-350 Pick-up truck with extendable mirrors. The truck, which has front-end and front-driver’s side damage, was last seen driving eastbound on Georgia 138, police said.
A $1,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to the arrest of the runaway driver.
Elgin, of Ellenwood, was a retired lieutenant with DeKalb County Police.
