Metro Atlanta residents will wake up to heavy showers on Monday after a round of heavy rain on Sunday.

A flash flood watch has been issued from 7 p.m. Sunday until 1 p.m Monday for the metro area, said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz.

“Rain moves in late (Sunday), especially into the evening hours,” said Nitz, who added the wet weather will continue through Tuesday with scattered showers also possible Wednesday.

“Add it all up and we could see widespread totals between 3 and as much as 5 inches of rain,” Nitz said.

The wet weather, a big change from a mild and sunny Saturday, coincides with a warm front moving in from the south and showers from the west, Nitz said.

The daytime high on Sunday will be around 60 with a 70 percent chance of rain, dropping to a nighttime low of 40.

The daytime high Monday will be around 63 before dropping to highs in the upper 50s Tuesday and Wednesday. The chance of rain Monday and Tuesday is 90 percent, before dropping to 40 percent Wednesday.

The nighttime lows will be in the mid 50s Monday, dropping to the mid 40s Tuesday and Wednesday.
