On Friday, Krispy Kreme will be celebrating the company's 78th anniversary by offering customers who buy a dozen of their original glazed doughnuts an additional dozen for only 78 cents.

Although customers need to buy a dozen at the original price first, with the offer, the average cost per doughnut should be about 37 cents.

Before running off to the nearest store to buy a year's worth of doughnuts, know what you're getting yourself into, and be sure to have some friends at the office who are ready to help share the 4,560 calories that 24 doughnuts contain.

Per Krispy Kreme's nutritional information, one original glazed doughnut contains 190 calories. To put that into perspective, it takes a 155-pound person 30 minutes of kayaking to burn 186 calories, according to a Harvard health study.

One dozen original doughnuts contain roughly 2,280 calories, more than the recommended daily caloric intake for an average person. In order to burn that many calories, the Harvard study says that a 185-pound person would have to run at a pace of 6 minutes per mile for over an hour and a half.

Research done by the Institute of Medicine, which calculates nutritional information, shows that 45-65 percent of a person's daily caloric intake should come from carbs, while 20-35 percent should come from fats and 10-35 percent from proteins.

One original glazed doughnut will give a person 17 percent of his/her fat total for the entire day, and 7 percent of the carbohydrate total.

Friday's anniversary celebration is Krispy Kreme's opportunity to save doughnut lovers a little bit of money. If you enjoy these sweet treats, and decide to tackle two-dozen on Friday, just be prepared to have a good workout ready.
