An Atlanta man was hawking a whole lot more than burgers and fries from his post at a Gwinnett County fast food restaurant, authorities said.

Derek Stargell, 34, was arrested last week by members of the Gwinnett Metro Task Force and charged with three counts of sale of marijuana, as well as separate charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine. Stargell allegedly sold marijuana to undercover officers three separate times while working at the Checkers restaurant at 919 Buford Drive in Lawrenceville — a location not far from the Gwinnett County jail.

“(Task force members) received a tip, which led to the three undercover drug purchases,” Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Deputy Shannon Volkodav said.

Stargell was detained at the Checkers on April 16, Volkodav said. As of Tuesday, he was being held without bond.

The Gwinnett Metro Task Force is a team made up of deputies from the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Lawrenceville, Lilburn, Duluth and Suwanee police departments. The task force was formed in 2012 to investigate drug and vice complaints in those cities.
