Four Gwinnett County deputies are being praised for their quick-thinking after rushing to save someone before they could jump from the second floor of the courthouse.

The incident occurred after a court hearing Monday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said in a social media post.

“When a visitor appeared to be upset while leaving the courtroom after a hearing, our concerned deputies watched closely,” the post said. “As a result, they were ready when the distraught visitor attempted to jump from the second story onto the concrete floor below.”

Surveillance photos of the incident appear to show Deputy E. Maclin grab the person from behind as they straddled the metal railing. Deputies J. Franklin, J. Hodges and D. Wood rushed in to help and pulled the visitor to safety.

According to the sheriff’s office, no one was injured in the incident. The person seen in the surveillance photos was taken to the hospital.

“We’re proud of our deputies for their quick intervention,” the sheriff’s office said. “They work hard every day to serve our community and their actions reflect their caring and compassion for people. We’re thankful they intervened and spared a family tremendous heartache.”
