Members of the Gwinnett County sheriff’s SWAT team were decontaminated this morning after coming into contact with methamphetamine.

According to Gwinnett authorities, a decontamination tent was set up outside the emergency room at Gwinnett Medical Center, and the eight deputies have been treated and released.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Shannon Volkodav said the deputies were assisting the Department of Homeland Security with the execution of a warrant at a home on Omaha Drive in Norcross.

“While taking a suspect into custody, our deputies had direct exposure to an illegal drug, methamphetamine, that caused irritation to their skin and eyes,” Volkodav said.

Fire crews assisted hospital personnel with the decontamination.
