Gwinnett bank robbery suspect caught at hotel

April 9, 2015

On Tuesday, Gwinnett County police released surveillance footage of a Peachtree Corners bank robber.

By Wednesday, they had a suspect in custody.

Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Deon Washington said 56-year-old Gary Early was arrested in connection with the March 30 robbery of a Piedmont Bank in Peachtree Corners. Authorities received a tip from the public after releasing surveillance photos, Washington said, and found Early at a local hotel.

“The clothing that was worn during the robbery and approximately $200 in cash was recovered,” Washington said. “In addition, the journal stationary that the demand note was written on was found.”

Early declined to speak with detectives after being detained, Washington said. He was charged with robbery by intimidation and, as of Thursday evening, remained in the Gwinnett County jail in lieu of $11,200 bond.
