Several homes were evacuated in northwest Atlanta on Saturday after a grenade that turned out to be either a toy or replica was found at a vacant rental property.

Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos said the device was found at 913 Ridge Avenue NW. He said the APD bomb squad and Homeland Security were called in to investigate, but the device was later determined to be fake after it was removed from the home.

Fred Davies, who works for a property management company, found the device in a kitchen cabinet after he was sent to secure the property.

“I thought this is not something I want to play with so I put it down and took a picture of it because I figured people might not believe I was actually stuck here all day because of a hand grenade,” Davis told Channel 2 Action News.

Davies said the home had been vacant for a few days.
