The mask-wearing person who led to the evacuation of the old biology building at Georgia Southern University around 8 a.m. Friday has been identified as a graduate student prankster who had no intention of causing harm.
The student was being questioned by campus police Friday afternoon who had not yet determined if they would bring criminal charges or internal student misconduct charges, according to school officials.
The student’s identity has not yet been released by mid afternoon Friday.
The old biology building was evacuated Friday morning after campus police received a report of a suspicious person wearing a mask, and everyone else was asked to stay where they were, school spokeswoman Paige Fluker told Channel 2 Action News.
There were never any weapons or suspicious packages reported or found.
The all-clear was issued just before 12:45 p.m. Friday, according to the university’s official Twitter account, and Fluker said classes in the old biology building resumed early Friday afternoon.
Statesboro is about 200 miles southeast of Atlanta.
