A newly unemployed Piers Morgan still doesn’t believe Meghan Markle, he felt the need to make known Wednesday.
The controversial talk show host quit “Good Morning Britain” on Tuesday after being publicly shamed by his colleague on air for his remarks about Markle. But taking himself off camera isn’t going to keep Morgan quiet.
“On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK,” he tweeted with a quote by Winston Churchill.
“Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”
After Oprah Winfrey’s explosive interview with Meghan and husband Prince Harry aired Sunday night on CBS, Morgan accused the “Suits” actress of lying about the racism she says she encountered at Buckingham Palace and her suicidal thoughts.
“I don’t believe a word she says, Meghan Markle,” Morgan said Monday on “Good Morning Britain.” “I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report.”
Backlash followed almost immediately, including from mental health groups that said Morgan’s dismissal only made it harder for people to ask for help when they need it.
But the on-air scolding from weatherman Alex Beresford seemed to be the last straw for Morgan, who stormed off of set Tuesday before quitting a few hours later.
“I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle. You’ve made that so clear a number of times on this program. A number of times. And I understand that you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off,” Beresford said.
“She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has, but yet you continue to trash her.”
In 2018, during an appearance on Ireland’s “Late Late Show,” Morgan claimed that Markle “ghosted” him in 2016 after they had drinks, hours before she met Prince Harry at a party.
