A Florida Army National Guard soldier from Georgia died Tuesday after losing control of his Humvee and crashing.

Arandall Ladarrion Shears, 20, of West Point, died from his injuries after being transported to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Shears was driving north on U.S. 301 in Bradford County, Fla., when he attempted to change lanes and lost control of the vehicle, according to investigators.

“The Hummer entered the grass median and overturned, which ejected the driver,” the report states.

The vehicle’s cargo landed in a southbound lane of the highway, police said. Several people stopped and began CPR on Shears until emergency responders arrived, according to the FHP. Shears was in critical condition when transported to the hospital, where he died.

Shears was heading to Jacksonville at the time of the crash, according to the Florida National Guard. He was a member of the 146th Expeditionary Signal Battalion based in Gainesville.
