A pair of scratch-off games turned two lucky Georgians into instant millionaires in the new year.

A player from Barney, who bought their Georgia Lottery 2nd Edition Billionaire Club ticket at a Quick Change store in nearby Valdosta, claimed their winnings Thursday. After selecting the lump sum cash option, they walked away with just over $3.7 million.

Then on Friday, a player from Jefferson captured the top prize in the Multiplier Madness game. That winning ticket, purchased at the Corner Station store in Commerce, was worth $2 million.

According to the Georgia Lottery website, nearly $52 million in prizes was won last week on scratch-off games.

The next Mega Millions drawing will be held Friday night, with a jackpot of $42 million. While no one won the New Year’s Eve jackpot, three people took home $1 million each.

Saturday’s Powerball drawing now stands at $200 million. The last jackpot winner pocketed $256 million on Dec. 7.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
