A Madison County woman has been charged with vehicular homicide following her infant son dying in a November crash.

Tela Lynn Wood, 34, of Hull faces charges of drunk driving, serious injury by vehicle and failing to yield the right of way, according to the Athens Banner-Herald. Wood's infant son died from injuries he endured in a two-vehicle collision in Madison County.

The collision happened about 3:25 p.m. Nov. 19 at Highway 98 and Rogers Mill Road in Madison County, according to a Georgia State Patrol report obtained by the Banner-Herald. Wood was traveling west on Highway 98, made a left turn toward Rogers Mill Road but failed to yield to an eastbound semi-truck. The truck struck Wood’s 1998 Toyota SUV on the passenger side, troopers said.

Charles Luther Wood, who was 5 months old, was critically injured and died the next day. Wood’s 5-year-old child Tela was airlifted to Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta with critical injuries. Another sibling, Thomas Wood, 8, was transported to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center to treat his injuries, the newspaper reported.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Wood was booked at the Madison County Jail on Nov. 27, but she was later released on an $18,800 bond, the Banner-Herald reported.
