Georgia’s living former governors
Georgia has five living former governors, including the most famous, Jimmy Carter.
Carter was governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975, before his successful campaign for president.
Here are four other living former governors of Georgia:
- Joe Frank Harris, Democrat, served 1983 to 1991.
- Roy Barnes, Democrat, served 1999 to 2003
- Sonny Perdue, Republican, served 2003 to 2011.
- Nathan Deal, Republican, served from 2011 to 2019.
Here is a list of other Georgia governors who served since 1960.
- Ernest Vandiver, governor 1959-1963. Died in 2005.
- Carl Sanders, governor 1963 to 1967. Died in 2014.
- Lester Maddox, governor 1967 to 1971. Died in 2003.
- George Busbee, governor 1975 to 1983. Died in 2004.
- Zell Miller, governor 1991 to 1999. Died March 23, 2018.
