Kemp appointed Mosely to the state board in April 2019. The Climax native had previously served as the superintendent of seven school districts and was named Superintendent of the Year in 1999, according to the board of education website.
Mosely served as the superintendent of the Dougherty County school system before retiring in 2017.
The Georgia Board of Education described Mosely as a “lifelong educator who has served Georgia’s students as a coach, teacher, administrator and superintendent.”
Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr joined the governor on Twitter in mourning Mosely’s loss.
