A Haralson County firefighter died Tuesday, a week after suffering a heart attack while responding to a traffic accident.

Justin William Robinson, 50, of Rockmart, went into cardiac arrest July 14 while working to get injured patients out of a car crash on Ga. 27 in Buchanan. Emergency crews on the scene immediately provided first aid, and he was taken to the hospital. A statement from the Haralson County Fire Department confirmed his death a week later.

The New York native, known as JRO to his colleagues, was a 23-year veteran of the Fulton County Fire Department and a Georgia Search and Rescue Specialist. He retired from the Fulton department in late 2017 and joined the Haralson fire department about a year later in November 2018, Haralson fire Chief Brian Walker told AJC.com.

“His legacy of public service continues, sustaining life for others as an organ donor,” a statement from the Haralson fire department said.

A memorial service for Robinson will be held July 30 at 2 p.m. at the Haralson County Recreation Center’s gymnasium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Georgia Firefighter’s Burn Foundation. His family also plans to set up a trust fund for Robinson’s daughter.
