The deaths of two Georgians about 150 miles apart are being blamed on the massive winter storm, officials in two counties said Wednesday afternoon.

In Butts County, a 50-year-old man died after apparently having a medical emergency outside his home, coroner Ralph Wilson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Kenneth Mitchell had planned to walk to a neighbor’s house when for unknown reasons, he attempted to get back into his own house, Wilson said. Mitchell never made it. His wife found him early Wednesday near the front porch of the couple’s home and called 911.

“There is no injury that we have found at this point to the body,” Wilson said.

Investigators believe that Mitchell died from hypothermia. An autopsy will be conducted.

“He was outside most of the night,” Wilson said.

About 150 miles north in Whitfield County, a 63-year-old woman was found dead inside her home. The woman, whose name was not released, did not have heat in her home, according to the county’s sheriff’s office.
